Fun with shapes!
The kindergarten classes have been recently learning about shapes in MET class. The children worked on apps called doodle buddy and fingerpaint to create a rectangle, square, circle, triangle, and hexagon. Once they created those shapes on the iPad, they were given toothpicks and marshmallows to actually create the shapes they made on the iPad in a hands on way. They had a great time!
Mazes!
The fourth graders have been learning about lines, angles and polygons in MET class. They were given the task of making a draft of a maze on the app Educreations. They had to include right angles, acute angles, obtuse angles, parallel lines, and intersecting lines in the maze. When the draft was done the students built the maze using straws, tape, and poster board for a fun problem based learning activity. Once the maze was built, the children took a picture of it with the iPad and then uploaded it back to Educreations. On this app they highlighted the necessary angles and lines to show their learning. The students had a great time and were very engaged in their learning!

Fun in MET class!
The kindergarten class had fun recently in MET class. Technology was integrated with math and reading to focus on counting skills. The students listened to the story Ten Apples Up On Top. The children then proceeded to predict how many apples they could balance on their heads like the characters did in the book. The students tried that and counted how many actually balanced. It wasn't very many! We then recorded this on the Ipad in an app that utilizes ten frames. As a class we decided it might be easier to balance our apples on a flat surface, so we tried using the bottom of a cup. This worked out better! Again, we recorded these results in an app. We didn't use real apples, but had fun counting anyway!
"Apple" balancing success!
Trying to balance more than one!
Getting started in MET class!
We have been off to a great start in MET class this year. Each of the classes has been working on essential standards in math using Ipads. Take a look below at the photos to see what we have been up to in our classroom this year.
First grade is working on counting up to 120.
Third grade is practicing telling time to the minute.

Welcome to a new school year!
Hello! My name is Angie Mulder and I am the new math with technology teacher at North Ward and Dawson. I come to Allegan with several years of teaching experience in grade levels ranging from preschool to 7th grade. I am very excited to be a part of your child's education. As a class your students will come to me once a week where we will focus on using and applying the math skills they learn in their regular classroom using technology. Your child's teacher and I will work together to provide the best learning environment for success. If you have any questions, please do not hestitate to email me at amulder@alleganps.org or contact your child's primary teacher. I am looking forward to an exciting and successful school year!
